Family Engagement and *PTAs both work in schools to support their communities, however, Family Engagement aims to also empower families to be a part of creating and leading in our school community.  Family Engagement calls for building trusting relationships, sharing in meaningful communication and creating collaborative partnerships with our families.  

We want to find ways to work together to increase our family engagement and find ways to help you share your expertise, experiences, and voice  - we need our parents' voice to move forward! 

Renton School District's  Family & Community Engagement Vision
We believe family engagement has a positive effect on student achievement and supports the District mission that each student graduates with options and is prepared to fully participate in our democracy.  We will know we have achieved authentic family engagement when students and families feel their cultures are valued and when all families experience trusting and respectful relationships, meaningful communication, and collaborative partnerships.

Renton Innovation Zone Partnership/RIZP

The RIZP is an organization that works to connect communities and schools to drastically improve the well-being of children and their academic performance in the serve areas of four elementary schools (RSD’s RIZ: Lakeridge, Bryn Mawr, Campbell Hill and Highlands Elementary schools.)

Some of RIZP’s main goals include partnering with Skyway/West Hill communities to gain resources for basic amenities needed to support families and children; support tutoring, academic and enrichment opportunities; improve the quality and increase the number of early learning opportunities; and provide resources that will create significant changes to students experiences homelessness and housing instability so they will be able to learn and thrive.  For more information, click here website or email.

Belong Partners
Belong Partners offers comprehensive programs that help educators connect with our youth and address the root causes of challenging behavior.  The results are lasting, measurable reduction in discipline problems and improvements in school culture.

They also train parent educators who offer families tools to build on communication skills, reduce discipline challenges, and continue to build social-emotional skills at home.  Visit their website.

Founder and Director, Lakeridge 'Natural Leader' and grandparent Alesia Cannady

Pepper Pot Kinship support group meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Friday each month for kinship caregivers seeking support. Next virtual meeting is Friday, December 11, 2020 at 11:30 am.
